Oisín McGannThe Writing for Children online course with Oisín McGann covers the basics of storytelling and the  specific aspects of writing for children and young adults. This course is perfect if you can’t make it to a classroom course! The first course of 2013 starts on January 21st.

I’ve done a weekend workshop with Oisín, and I found him very personable, knowledgeable, and professional.

Areas that will be looked at include:

  • how to generate ideas
  • how to use observation
  • description of both character and setting
  • using dialogue
  • ensuring a good pace and plot
  • how to tailor your writing for different age groups

There will be short practical exercises at each stage of the course.

Oisin will also be giving tips on how to get published, and how to market your books once you get published.

Oisín McGann works full time as an author and illustrator. He has written and illustrated numerous books for young children, including the Mad Grandad series, The Forbidden Files series, and two short retellings of Irish legends. He has also produced eight novels -The Gods And Their Machines, The Harvest Tide Project, Under Fragile Stone, Small-Minded Giants, Ancient Appetites, Strangled Silence and The Wisdom of Dead Men. His most recent novel is Merciless Reason.
