Paula Leyden’s first children’s book, The Butterfly Heart, was shortlisted for the Childrens Books Ireland (CBI) Book of the Year Award in 2012 and won the Eilis Dillon Award for best first book.
Now Walker Books is launching the follow-up book, The Sleeping Baobab Tree, this Friday, May 3rd, 2013 at Stonehouse Books in Kieran Street, Kilkenny.
From Paula: “The title, The Sleeping Baobab Tree, was chosen because a large part of the book takes place at a place in Zambia called Ng’ombe Ilede (translated as The Sleeping Cow). The sleeping cow is an ancient Baobab Tree.”
Everyone is welcome to this free event and book launch, so do go if you can. It starts at 7:30 pm.
Paula was born in Kenya and grew up in Africa. She moved to Ireland in 2003 and lives in Kilkenny with her family where they breed and raise horses.
Her partner, Tom O’Neill, published a book with Little Island called Old Friends: The Lost Tales of Fionn Mac Cumhaill. Sounds intriguing.
We are lucky and honoured to have Paula as a SCBWI Ireland member!
