Waterford Writers Weekend

The Waterford Writers Weekend kicks off in a couple of weeks! It runs from Thursday, March 20th to Sunday, March 23rd. There’s a range of writing-related events for both adults and kids. Here are four you won’t want to miss!!

Teen Writes: Workshop for 13-16 year olds with Claire Hennessy

Saturday 22nd March | 11:00am – 1:00pm | Central Library (Reference Room) | Free | Register online.

This practical workshop will get teenagers brainstorming and writing, with an opportunity at the end for any questions they might have about writing or publishing. Facilitated by Claire Hennessy, author of several YA novels and experienced creative writing teacher, who also recently edited an anthology of work by teenage writers.

Creative Writing Workshop for 9 -11 year olds with Alan Early

Saturday 22nd March | 2:00pm – 3:30pm | Central Library (Reference Room) | Free | Sold out but check with the box office.

Do you have a young writer at home? The creator of the bestselling Arthur Quinn series will reveal where story comes from, how to create your own, and how important character is. Find out how to defeat serpents, wolves and the terrible god Loki!

Bookbinding workshop (adults)

Saturday 22nd March | 2:00pm – 3:30pm | South Paw Studio, 18a Lombard Street | €10 | Register directly with Martin Fahy

In this introduction to bookbinding workshop, participants will be shown the basic techniques and materials for creating simple but functional journals. Each participant will leave with a selection of notebooks.

Derrick the Viking…Story/Art workshop (Children 7 – 13 years)

Saturday 22nd March | 4:00pm – 5:30pm | South Paw Studio, 18a Lombard Street | €7.50 | Register directly with Martin Fahy

In this workshop the group will get to hear the story of Derrick, Who arrives in Waterford by accident ! The children will get the chance to create an image for the book jacket.
